Friday's Basketball Game

I play for the St. Paul Sea Parrots. I am the starting center for the team. I love playing for my hometown team. I am a senior and have been playing since my freshman year. It is a good way to make new friends, and get a lot of experience on the court.

Last Friday, I played against the community team. They are all adults. It gives us good experience and gets us ready for regionals. The adults are skilled, but they have bad attitudes. Well, most of them have bad attitudes.

It was a close game. It was one of the hardest teams that we were going to face this year. When we play basketball with the community team, the game seems more emotional. I like it that way. It makes me want to win more. We ended up beating them by 4 points at the end of the game.

I had 16 points and plenty of rebounds that game. I've been doing pretty good lately. I think that I've only been doing good when I get a lot of offensive rebounds. It kind of gives me a little spark and energy. Sometimes I can't get offensive rebounds because I'm too out of shape, but I'm not too bad right now.

Kobe Still Has It

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers have been doing great the past two games. Before these two games, the lakers had one win and nine losses. They were doing horrible on defense. After the first ten games, the Lakers won two straight wins. They have beat the Atlanta Hawks and the the top team in the west right now, the Houston Rockets.

Kobe leads the whole league in points right now at 27.5 points per game. He has been doing great scoring points and dishing out assists, as he got seven assists against the Rockets. Kobe has passed the 32,000 points mark against the Hawks, and isn't finished yet. He is scoring a bunch and is predicted the surpass Michael Jordan's scoring record in December. After he passes Michael Jordan, he will have the 3rd most points in NBA history.

I think it is amazing to have watched, and am still watching Kobe make history. You don't see someone make roughly 30 points a game for 17 years. It just makes me speechless. I'm so happy that Kobe stayed with the Lakers and wants to retire a Laker. Kobe is the youngest player to ever get 32,000 points.

Jordan Hill has also been showing improvement on his shot by the free throw line. He made four back to back shots right there because of just a simple screen. Kobe would get screened by Jordan Hill and the opposing team would double team Kobe every time since he is a great scorer. Jordan Hill would be wide open every time. I think that this is a perfect opportunity for the Lakers. If Kobe gets double teamed, he can pass it to the screener, and if he doesn't get double teamed, he can shoot the jumper.

You would assume that the Lakers were improving there offense since Swaggy P (Nick Young) is back on the court. It did a little bit, but they have definitely improved their defense. Comparing the last 2 games to the first 10 games of the season, the Lakers have shortened the opposing teams points by over 10 points. They have definitely stopped the fast break points from happening as frequently.

Kobe is relieved to have Nick Young back on the court. Kobe has been carrying the offensive load for the first 10 games of the season and he doesn't seem that tired. I'm sure that takes a lot of effort though. Nick Young is a great playmaker. It will take some much needed weight off of Kobe's shoulders.

Clayton Kershaw's Awarded

Clayton Kershaw, the Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher, was awarded the NL Cy Young award and also the MVP award. His stupendous pitching during the season stunned the world. Clayton Kershaw has won the Cy Young and MVP award with a major margin. He is the only pitcher to be awarded the NL MVP award since 1968 by Bob Gibson. Clayton Kershaw has earned that MVP from his season excellence.

Clayton Kershaw had 18 of 30 first place votes going toward him. Kershaw was in disbelief when he heard his name get called for MVP. He couldn't believe that he beat Gioncarlo Stanton and Andrew McKutchin. Gioncarlo Stanton is one of the best slugging hitters in the game, getting a lot of home runs. Andrew McKutchin is a superb outfielder that makes difficult catches like it's nothing.

When Kershaw pitched this season, the team won 21 games and only lost 4 games. The rest of the starting pitchers was only 3 games over .500 during the season. Its a big difference. Kershaw was 13 games over .500. Kershaw has won his second straight Cy Young award, his 3rd overall.

Clayton Kershaw has also won the NL Golden Glove award. It is for a player that makes difficult catches. One of the hardest balls to catch is on the pitchers mound. You have to have really good reflexes. Once the ball is hit, the ball is going straight towards you, and trust me, the batters hit hard. If you don't catch the ball, you will probably get hit.

I think that Clayton Kershaw is the best pitcher to ever play baseball. I'm so happy that he is on the Dodgers. I just love watching him play, and I'll be watching him play until he pitches his last baseball. I think that it will be a very long time before anybody sees such a great performance, especially on a game to game basis. The awesome part is, he's only going to get better.

Lakers Struggles

The Lakers are having a bad start of the season. They are 1-7 right now. I'm just happy that the Lakers won one game. I had a feeling that the Lakers would still do good this year. I know that they'll become good sometime soon though.

One of the reason why the Lakers are doing bad right now is because of all of the injuries. Steve Nash is out with a bad back. Julies Randle, the seventh round pick from Kentucky, is out for the season because he fractured his leg on the first game of the season. It is sad to see a young star with a lot of talent have a major injury right in the beginning of the season. Nick Young is injured, Ronnie Price is suspended for one game because he hit a player, and Wayne Ellington is on a break because his dad got shot and passed away. The Lakers are struggling with injuries just like last year.

On the other hand, Kobe is back to his normal self. He has been averaging 27.5 points a game. It is nice to watch Kobe play like he used to before he retires. Everybody thought that he wouldn't do so well anymore after all of those injuries last season. That's just what Kobe does, prove people wrong.

Carlos Boozer has been struggling. He hasn't been playing to his full potential. He hasn't been scoring much, and he's been letting the opposing team score a lot as he hasn't been playing great defense. He was never really looked at as a defensive player, but he can at least try. He is seen as a power forward who can get offensive rebounds and score the ball. He has been getting some offensive boards, but he hasn't been making his shots.

Jeremy Lin was a nice pick up for the Lakers, but it isn't enough. He got traded to the Lakers from Houston this off season because the Houston Rockets thought that Chris Bosh was going to head over. He has been scoring about 20 points a game and has been averaging 4.9 assists a game. He is leading the team in assists. It doesn't seem like much, but he's more of a scoring point guard.

I know that everyone is ranting about Kobe having the most missed shots in NBA history, but it isn't that bad. He only missed so many shots because he is a scorer thats has been in the NBA for many years. Kobe has missed a shot about every 3 minutes and 25 seconds. I'm going to name some familiar names that have missed in a shorter amount of time, Carmelo Anthony, Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Freeman Williams, and Allen Iverson. If any of these players have been in the league as long as Kobe has, there is a pretty good chance that they would have missed more.

All in all, I am a little disappointed that the Lakers aren't doing good right now. That doesn't mean that I won't be a Lakers fan for life.  This stuff just happens to NBA teams. The team could become a great team again at anytime. It can be 1 year, 5 year, 10 years, or even more. Sad to say, but it all depends on how much money the team has. I'm pretty sure that the Lakers will be a good team again very soon, because they have plenty of money. I'm just grinding out this season, and looking forward to the off season to see if any free agents come over and represent the Lakers franchise.
